Coming Home

Many of us didn't grow up in a Reformed church. We came to faith in Baptist churches, Bible churches, non-denominational churches, or no church at all. We're grateful for the people who taught us to love Jesus and open our Bibles.

But somewhere along the way, many of us started looking for something steadier. Something rooted. We wanted a church whose teaching wouldn't shift with each new trend, whose worship was shaped by Scripture rather than by what's popular, and whose faith connected us to Christians who came long before us.

Michael Horton, a minister in the United Reformed Churches, describes a pattern many of us have lived:

"This has been the vicious cycle of evangelical revivalism ever since: a pendulum swinging between enthusiasm and disillusionment rather than steady maturation in Christ through participation in the ordinary life of the covenant community."

The Reformed churches offer another way: the ordinary, faithful life of a church gathered around God's Word, week after week.

What this series is

Over the next six weeks, we'll answer the questions people ask most when they first look into a Reformed church:

  • What is a confessional church?
  • What will worship look like at Redeemer?
  • Why do Reformed churches worship the way they do?
  • What do Reformed churches believe about baptism and the Lord's Supper?
  • How is a Reformed church led and cared for?
  • How do you make the move, and how do you join?

Along the way we'll share the words of pastors in the United Reformed Churches in North America (URCNA), the federation Redeemer is waiting to join as a mission church plant.

Who it's for

This series is for anyone who is curious, whether you're simply wondering what "Reformed" means or already thinking about making a change. It isn't a criticism of where you've come from. It's an invitation to see what we've found.
